Art Collective
The international art collective is widely recognized as a pioneer of digital art.
Founded in 2001 in Tokyo, teamLab’s collaborative practice seeks to navigate the confluence of art, science, technology, and the natural world. Through art, the interdisciplinary group of specialists, including artists, programmers, engineers, CG animators, mathematicians, and architects, aims to explore the relationship between the self and the world, and new forms of perception.
The vision of teamLab
To make sense of the world, people often divide it into separate entities, imposing perceived boundaries between them. teamLab aims to dissolve these boundaries, reshaping our understanding of the world, the connection between self and surroundings, and the continuity of time.
By using digital technologies, they create dynamic and visually impressive works: "We transform our ideas into images and scales that no one could have imagined before," says Toshiyuki Inoko, founder of teamLab.
From Tokio around the globe
With its unconventional understanding of art, the collective is shaking up the scene worldwide: teamLab exhibitions have been held in cities worldwide, including New York, London, Paris, Singapore, Silicon Valley, Beijing and Melbourne among others. teamLab museums and large-scale permanent exhibitions include teamLab Borderless and teamLab Planets in Tokyo, teamLab Borderless Jeddah, teamLab SuperNature Macao, and teamLab Massless Beijing, with more to open in cities including Abu Dhabi, Kyoto and Utrecht.
